Welcome to Pinellas Virtual School
Students may take virtual classes part-time or full time and begins as early as kindergarten through their senior year. Pinellas County Schools has its own virtual school called Pinellas Virtual School (PVS). For middle and high school students, PVS uses digital resources and lesson plans that are the same as those used in many of the district’s brick and mortar classrooms. All teachers are Pinellas County School employees and students enrolled in PVS may likely be classmates of students in their brick & mortar school.
The curriculum used in PVS’s elementary program is provided by K12 Inc., a company that Pinellas County Schools has contracted with to provide digital instruction and teachers.
Registration Information for the 2012-2013 School Year
The first registration period for Pinellas Virtual School's full time and part time program is now open for all Pinellas County Students for the 2012-2013 school year. To register for full time virtual school please click on the school level link above for a drop down menu of registration options. Complete the registration form and click the submit button. An email will be sent to you within 3-5 school days once eligibility has been determined.
For part time registration, please click on the school level link above for a drop down menu. Complete the registration form. The course requests will be forwarded to the student's home school for approval and scheduling by their guidance counselor.
This registration period closes Friday July 20, 2012.
Full Time Virtual
This programs allows students to access all their required courses from home online. All full time students enrolled in PVS are expected to carry the full six course load as required and should follow the district’s Student Progression Plan. Students enrolled in full time Pinellas Virtual School will have Pinellas County School teachers and students as classmates. Full time students earn a regular diploma from their zoned school and are permitted to participate in school sponsored activities, clubs, and sports, just as any other student attending the school.
This programs allows students to access all their required courses from home online. Part Time (Co-enrolled)
This program allows students to attend public school for part of their school day and take their remaining coursework online. The online course-work should follow the district’s Student Progression Plan. These part-time courses will be part of the students normal school day and taken off campus. Students may arrive late or leave early to take part time virtual courses. Part-time-virtual students earn a regular diploma from their zoned school and are permitted to participate in school sponsored activities, clubs, and sports, just as any other student attending the school.
This program allows students to attend public school for part of their school day and take their remaining coursework online. As a result of the Digital Learning Act beginning with the 2011-2012 school year every student entering 9th grade must take at least one online course within the 24 credits required for graduation. Students must complete the online class by the time they graduate. To meet this requirement there are two options a student can choose from.
Option 1: Students may take an online course offered by the Pinellas Virtual School. This class will be part of the student’s 7 period day off campus from home, public library or other location with internet access. Students may take this online course as their 1st or 7th period and then attend their home school for periods 2-6. Students will request this course by clicking on the Part Time Registration link under the High school tab above. All PVS courses are taught by Pinellas County School's teachers and use the Pinellas County School’s online curriculum aligned to the Next Generation of Sunshine State Standards.
The following courses are available next year to meet the requirement.
9th grade 2012-2013 courses:
HOPE (Health Options thru Physical Education),
STEM (Computer Applications in Science and Engineering)
10th grade 2012-2013 courses:
HOPE (Health Options thru Physical Education),

ACT/SAT Test Prep
Option 2: Students may also meet this requirement by requesting any course through the Florida Virtual School. FLVS classes can be taken during 1st and 7th off campus from home or taken as an 8th period beyond the school day. To register for these course go to www.flvs.net. All FLVS teachers are Florida certified teachers and may reside outside of Pinellas County. FLVS students use the FLVS curriculum that is aligned to the Next Generation of Sunshine State Standards.

The passage of House Bill 7197 by the Florida Legislature created a state law which enables high-achieving 4th and 5th grade Pinellas County School's students who obtained a Level 4 or Level 5 score on thier FCAT Math or Reading test the opportunity to accelerate thier coursework in Math, Reading and Language arts through Pinellas Virtual School or Florida Virtual School.
Pinellas Virtual School Option:
These students may take an M/J middle school math or M/J language arts class online as well as remain in thier grade level math, reading and language arts class receiving the benchmarks for thier grade level FCAT Assesment. Registration for these courses will open on July 1, 2012. You will go to the Elementary drop down located on this website and complete the 4th/5th Grade Acceleration Registration form.

If a parent or guardian wishes thier child to take a Florida Virtual School accelerated course during thier child's school day they may be permitted to leave their zoned campus and the parent must provide thier own transportation and supervision of the student taking the courses. To sign up for a course through Florida Virtual School (FLVS) go to http://www.flvs.net and follow the sign up directions posted on their website.

Program Eligibility
Student eligibility for the full time virtual instruction program is restricted to students residing within the district’s attendance area, and meeting at least one of the following conditions:
- Students must have spent the prior school year in attendance at a public school in Florida
- Must be the dependent of a member of the military who was transferred in the last 12 months
- Must have been enrolled during the prior school year in a K-12 Virtual School Program under s. 1002.415, F.S.
- Must be the sibling of a student enrolled for one year in a public full time virtual program
- Must be a student entering Kindergarten or first grade
